OpenAI launches Premium seats for ChatGPT Business at $125 per user per month
OpenAI is adding a new Premium seat tier to ChatGPT Business, giving individual users five times more usage than the standard seat and removing the platform's five-hour usage limit, the company announced, alongside a limited-time credit offer for early sign-ups.
What's new
- Premium seats cost "$125 per user per month, or $100 per user per month when billed annually." Standard seats remain "$25 per user per month, or $20 per user per month when billed annually."
- Premium seat usage includes "5x more usage than Standard," removal of the five-hour usage limit, and "predictable weekly usage resets."
- Workspace owners and admins can "mix Standard and Premium seats across the same team," upgrade or reassign seats as needs change, and manage billing, usage, and spend limits from one place, all within the same secure Business workspace.
- For a limited time, OpenAI says "the first 10,000 eligible ChatGPT Business customers can receive $100 in workspace credits (2,500 credits) for each Premium seat they add, up to 5 seats." Sign-up requires joining a waitlist with the email tied to the workspace owner's account, and some early sign-ups may get access before Premium becomes generally available.
Context
ChatGPT Business is OpenAI's mid-tier offering, positioned between individual ChatGPT plans and the larger ChatGPT Enterprise product. OpenAI frames the change as a direct response to customer demand, saying "our top request from ChatGPT Business customers has been an expanded seat option with more capacity and usage built in." It follows a broader pattern this year of OpenAI adjusting usage limits for its most demanding users, including recently extending Fast mode to prompts over 272K tokens on GPT-5.6.
Why it matters
Usage caps, not raw model capability, have become one of the biggest practical friction points for teams doing heavy day-to-day work in ChatGPT: coding with Codex across larger codebases, running big analyses, or building full marketing campaigns in a single session. A tiered-seat model lets OpenAI capture more revenue from its heaviest business users without raising the price floor for lighter ones, mirroring how the company already segments its consumer plans. If the split works for Business, a similar structure could show up next in ChatGPT Enterprise or Team pricing.
