OpenAI acquires presentation startup NextSlide, folds team into ChatGPT

OpenAI has acquired NextSlide, an AI presentation startup, with the small team now working directly on ChatGPT — the latest in a string of acqui-hires OpenAI has used to fold specialized product teams into its core consumer app rather than operate them as standalone brands.

NextSlide's own site now carries a note from founder Ahmed Beshry announcing the move: "NextSlide recently announced that it's joining OpenAI, with the presentation startup's team members now working on ChatGPT." NextSlide's product turned "prompts, notes, documents, or research into a polished, editable presentation" — an AI-assisted alternative to building slide decks by hand. Beshry described the startup's broader goal as wanting "to make visual communication more accessible and help more people express their ideas clearly," and said the team, now inside OpenAI, will "continue pursuing that same mission: building AI products that help people create, communicate, and turn their ideas into meaningful work." OpenAI has not detailed a specific product timeline for NextSlide's technology inside ChatGPT.

Context

NextSlide launched in 2025 pursuing a narrow but well-understood problem: most people are faster at describing what they want than at manually building a presentation, and AI is well suited to closing that gap. Beshry had previously co-founded Caper AI, a smart-cart checkout startup Instacart acquired in 2021, giving him a prior run through the acquisition process from the other side.

The deal follows a pattern OpenAI has repeated through 2026: rather than building every adjacent product capability from scratch, it has picked up small teams with working products in specific domains and absorbed them into ChatGPT's feature set, similar in shape to its earlier acquisition of Ona for persistent cloud coding environments in Codex.
