Grok 4.6 becomes generally available on Amazon Bedrock

xAI's Grok 4.6 is now generally available on Amazon Bedrock, giving AWS customers direct access to xAI's flagship model alongside the OpenAI, Anthropic, and Meta models Bedrock already hosts.

xAI confirmed the launch on its own site: "Grok 4.6 is now generally available on Amazon Bedrock," available to all developers in supported AWS Regions. AWS's own announcement describes the integration in more technical terms: "Amazon Bedrock now supports SpaceXAI Grok 4.6, a frontier model built for coding, agentic tasks, and knowledge work, with US Geo and Global cross-Region inference."

On Bedrock, Grok 4.6 ships with two inference profiles: a US Geo profile (us.xai.grok-4.6) for customers with data-residency requirements, and a Global profile (global.xai.grok-4.6) that routes across commercial AWS Regions for broader capacity. The model carries a 500K-token context window and configurable reasoning effort levels — low, medium, high, and xhigh — letting developers trade latency and cost against reasoning depth per request. xAI lists pricing at $2 per million input tokens, $0.30 per million cached input tokens, and $6 per million output tokens.

Context

Grok 4.6 originally launched on August 12, 2026, as xAI's frontier model for long-running agents and interactive and visual work. Bedrock adding Grok follows a now-familiar pattern for the platform: rather than compete purely on Amazon's own Titan/Nova models, AWS has spent the past year adding rival labs' flagship models — including OpenAI's GPT-5.6 family — as first-class, natively hosted options, complete with AWS-specific infrastructure like cross-Region inference profiles.

Why it matters

For developers already standardized on Bedrock's APIs, IAM controls, and billing, Grok's arrival removes a reason to maintain a separate integration with xAI's own API just to access the model. For xAI, landing on the dominant enterprise cloud's model marketplace — with the same regional-routing and data-residency tooling AWS built for OpenAI and Anthropic — is a distribution and enterprise-credibility move that matters more than the model release itself did.
